The Science Policy Research Unit (SPRU)

Based at the University of Sussex Business School, the Science Policy Research Unit (SPRU) is one of the world's leading centres of research on science, technology and innovation policy and management.

Founded in 1966 by Christopher Freeman, a pioneer of what is now known as Innovation Studies, today SPRU remains at the forefront of new ideas, challenge-led research and inspiring teaching.

SPRU is driven by a desire to tackle real world challenges such as climate change and inequality, and passionately believes that innovative science policy solutions can help create more sustainable, secure and equal societies.

We are honoured to be hosting the leading Eu-SPRI Annual Conference in June 2023, and look forward to welcoming scholars and practitioners in-person to explore the theme of Research with Impact.

The conference sessions will take place at the University of Sussex campus, located in Falmer, surrounded by the 'outstanding natural beauty' of the South Downs. Step outside the Business School (Jubilee Building) and you can walk directly into the gorgeous countryside - perfect for summer walks & picnic breaks.

The University campus is also a stone's throw away from the vibrant city centre of Brighton - you can take a train from the campus-based train station and be in the centre of Brighton within 10 minutes! The University is also well connected to the city centre if travelling by car or bus. Travel guidance can be found here.

Brighton is a fantastic city to visit, especially in the summer time and we're sure you will find lots to enjoy in your down-time outside of the conference! Learn more about the city here.

We recommend that participants book accommodation in Brighton city centre as there are lots of options available, and the University campus is well-connected to the city with regular trains between our campus-based station and the city station.
